How To Get Clear Skin Fast, The Korean Way
Getting clear skin can be tough for many people. People with acne usually have skin that is dry, oily or both. Acne is natural and just about everyone has a breakout at some point in their life, either in their teenage years or as an adult experiencing hormonal issues.
There are steps you cannot control when it comes to acne, like genetics and hormonal fluctuations.
But there are some steps you can take to help control your acne.
Read our 4-step solution on how to get clear skin:
4-Step Solution To Get Clear Skin
If you have acne, a simple 4-step solution may be all you need to get clear skin.
The 4 steps are:
- Use a Salicylic Acid cleanser daily
- Use an Alpha-Hydroxy exfoliant 2 – 3 times per week
- Use a Benzoyl Peroxide spot treatment daily or as needed
- Use an Oil-Free daily moisturizer
Salicylic Acid unclogs pores and exfoliates dead skin cells to help smooth your skin. It’s available without a prescription and in many Korean acne skin care products.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids like Lactic acid, Glycolic acid, and Mandelic acid work by drying up blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples and gently peeling your skin. The strength of these acids in daily skincare products is low and will not burn your skin.
Benzoyl Peroxide fights the bacteria that cause acne. Use pimple patches at night to dry out pimples.
Use an oil-free moisturizer to keep skin hydrated, control oil, and reduce flaky skin.
How To Get Clear Skin K Beauty Style
Wash Your Face Morning & Night
Even if you wash your face every night, your pillowcases carry dirt and sweat from your hair, hands, and build-up from the products you use on your face at night.
When washing, first use a mild face wash to cleanse your skin. Then, lightly massage a chemical exfoliator, like an acid-laced cleanser, onto your face. This may seem redundant, but before you slough, you want a clean canvas, so that the exfoliant can focus on digging out the stubborn dirt and oil that are stuck deeper inside your pores.
Exfoliate Regularly
It is important to exfoliate regularly in order to remove the layers of dead skin cells and dirt that are blocking your pores — and your skin’s natural glow. Products with alpha-hydroxy and lactic acids exfoliate gently to make you look radiant.
Tips For People With Oily Skin
People with oily skin can be more prone to acne and breakouts. Oily skin creates sebum (oil) which sits on the surface of the skin and makes the skin feel greasy and look shiny.
Use An Oil-Free Cleanser
People with oily skin need an oil-free cleanser that washes away excess oil, dirt, and makeup without adding oil to the skin.
Cleanse Your Face Before Going To Bed & In The Morning
Do NOT sleep in your makeup. Your pillowcase is not as clean as you think. Change your pillowcase regularly. Hair and skincare products can be absorbed by your pillowcase and then transfer onto your skin while you are sleeping. Especially if you sleep on your tummy or side. You need to wash your face morning and night.
Wash your face for 30 to 45 seconds every morning and night with a 2 – 3 cm-sized amount of oil-free cleanser.
It is recommended to double cleanse, which is typical in a Korean skincare routine.
The first cleanse is an oil cleanse to get rid of makeup, dirt, and grime. The second cleanse is a foam or oil-based cleanser that removes all residue and leaves the skin completely clean.
Avoid Touching Your Face
Touching your face with your hands can put bacteria, dirt, and oils, onto your skin which can cause breakouts When you touch your phone, your handbag, school bag or locker putting your hands on your face transfers all the bacteria onto your skin. Not good.
Clean Your Mobile Phone
If you’ve got pimples anywhere near the side of your face, where you hold your mobile phone, you could have bacteria on your phone. Your phone has a lot of bacteria on it, which can go onto your face when you put it up to your ear to make a phone call.
Use an anti-bacterial wipe to clean your mobile to get rid of the bacteria and dirt.
Use An Astringent Toner
Consider using an astringent toner. Astringent toners help dry out the oil, clean skin, and reduce open pores.
Use Oil Absorbing Sheets Throughout The Day
Use oil-absorbing sheets to blot away any oil on your face throughout the day (or evening). This will help keep skin looking oil free and stop oil from sitting on your skin, clogging up your pores.
Avoid Popping Pimples
A pimple is oil, sebum, and bacteria trapped in a hair follicle. It is also called a Comedo.
Acne is where the pimples are inflamed.
Popping a pimple can push bacteria deeper into your skin, which can cause more pimples or slow down healing. Popping pimples can also leave you with permanent pitting of your skin or scars.
Pimples usually go away on their own, in 3 – 7 days.
Always Wear Sunscreen Outdoors
Oily skin can be more sensitive and reactive to the sun. using sunscreen to reduce UVA/UVB rays may help reduce a reaction. There are many Korean sunscreens that are not oily, will not block your pores, and do not leave a white film on your skin
Use ‘Light Weight’ Makeup
Makeup can aggravate breakouts, especially heavy makeup or layering concealer, contour, foundation, and setting powder/spray. Choose lighter makeup products that won’t block pores. Look for products that are specifically for acne skin and help reduce breakouts as they contain oil control ingredients.
Wash Your Makeup Brushes Regularly
Make sure to wash your makeup brushes regularly as they contain a lot of bacteria. There are many makeup brush cleansers, or if in doubt just use a good soap. If you use makeup sponges, wash those too or replace them with new ones on a regular basis.
If you wear makeup daily we recommend cleaning brushes in soapy water and then giving them a spray of anti-bacterial brush cleanser regularly until the next time you wash your brushes.

Moisturize
All skin types need moisture. Oily skin types need to use an oil-free moisturiser, which will help control oil production and prevent your skin from drying out, which will make your acne worse.
Avoid Hot Water On Your Face & Avoid Saunas/Steam Rooms
